While everyone was discussing how Apple TV has become the next HBO, Netflix it seems is becoming the HBO.
At first, I looked at it like another headline, but I actually can’t stop thinking about it. It feels like a monumental shift in media. I don’t know how to feel about it. Netflix having rights to Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and a lot of classics might be the great opportunity for the franchises, but they might also overdo it.
What is most definite, out of all contenders that were mentioned, Netflix feels like the best home for HBO. They know what matters – starting from the app experience, to the shows they are producing.
I’ve recently started to have a feeling that we are over the most recent golden age of TV, when everyone started pushing quantity over quality, but there might be another one right around the corner.
